What did you read over the summer?

I hope you all had a wonderful summer. I sure did! My daughter Emily, my mother Byrd, and I went to England and Scotland for 2 weeks. One of the highlights was on July 15th (the day the 6th Harry Potter Movie came out) we were in Edinburgh and had dinner at The Elephant House, the cafe where J.K. Rowlings wrote Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. That day we also found Tom Riddle's and Mogonigal's headstones in the graveyard near The Elephant House. Did you know she used names from that graveyard for her characters?

A few days later we came back from the Isle of Skye on the "Hogwart's Express". It is the steamtrain that goes once a day from Maillae to Fort Williams. It takes you over the big viaduct too. All the men who shovel the coal during the two hour journey are volunteers. The very friendly Supervisor even let us on the steam engine at the end of the trip to see (and feel the heat of) the fire. I will try to put some photos and videos on this blog as well.

My question for you: What is the best book you read this summer?

  4. I think it is so cool that J.K Rowling named her characters after real people. I love to read Harry Potter. I'd have to say my favorite book I read this summer was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I like this book because it is full of adventure, magic, and tension. I recommend this book to people who love magic, adventure, and scary moments. I can't wait until this library gets the book Tales of Beedle the Bard. Like I said if you like adventure stories, get into the Harry Potter series. If you're wondering there is a girl. Lots of girls . In fact one of the main characters is a girl. My favorite,Hermione. The other two main characters are of course,Harry Potter, and his friend, Ron Weasley.

I haven't read the Harry Potter yet nor have I seen the movies but I've heard good things about them. I think that it is awesome that the author of Harry Potter wrote the names after the people in the graveyard.

  20. I read a lot! I read Black Beauty quite recently and over the summer I read Dragon Rider. I'm currently trying to read A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectation. I read A Lost Bird over the summer and a lot of the Boxcar kids books. I went to the Parmly Library almost every day trying to get more to read! Anyway, I liked a lot of those books and had a great summer. Anyway, that is so cool that you got to go there! I love J.K. Rowling's books! In fact, over the summer I did read her new book, the one with the wizard children's tales. It was hilarious! I'd recommend it to anyone who loves the Harry Potter books.
